Obstetric services are tailored to meet the unique needs of each patient. With a focus on woman-centred care, Dr Cameron works collaboratively with midwives to create a safe and nurturing environment for you to bring new life into the world.

Antenatal Care Schedule

We recommend the following antenatal appointment schedule:

  1. Initial Consultation: Your first appointment is typically with a midwife who will assess your general health and provide guidance on initial antenatal care. Please ensure you have a referral from your GP prior to this appointment.

  2. Booking Appointment: Your longer booking appointment with Dr Cameron typically occurs later in the first trimester. This is an opportunity to discuss your medical history, review your pregnancy and develop a personalised care plan and schedule going forward for the rest of the pregnancy.

  3. Regular Check-Ups: You will typically have regular review appointments with Dr Cameron at the following intervals:

    • Every 4 weeks until 28 weeks

    • Every 3 weeks from 28 to 34 weeks

    • Fortnightly from 34 to 37 weeks

    • Weekly from 37 weeks until your baby's birth

Please note that the specific schedule may vary depending on individual needs and circumstances. Dr Cameron will work closely with you to ensure you receive the best possible care throughout your pregnancy journey.

Labour and Birth

Generally you will have an appointment to meet the midwives at the hospital you are booked with. We recommend booking this in early. They will give you the relevant paperwork and take you on on a tour of the maternity ward and birthing suites. Dr Cameron will always try to be present at your birth, however this may occasionally not be the case as he participates in a weekend on call arrangement with fellow obstetricians in town. This arrangement is important as it helps to ensure that you will have a well rested doctor looking after both you and your family during this important moment.

Contact

Dr Cameron’s office phone number is (03) 5441 7888 and he can be reached through this number during office hours. Out of hours Dr Cameron (or whoever may be covering for him) can always be contacted through St John of God Bendigo Hospital (SJGBH) on (03) 5434 3422. The midwives at the hospital are also very experienced and may be able to give helpful phone advice to alleviate some issues.

It is preferable that you contact this surgery in the first instance during work hours as we may well be able to solve any problems over the phone. Your GP should still be available for conditions unrelated to the pregnancy and may be contacted as required.

Vaccinations

Our recommendations are for all women to recive immunisations during their pregnancies. Vaccinations currently recommended by the Royal College of Obstetricians and the Australian government are for all women to be vaccinated against whooping cough and RSV during the second half of their pregnancies to reduce the risk of severe infections of their babies for the first 6 months of life. It is also recommended that women receive a flu vaccine during flu seasson to protect themselves against disease.

Stocks of vaccines for RSV, influenza (when available) and whooping cough are kept in the rooms and are avaialble to be given during one of your scheduled appointments without any additional charge.

Anti-D is also kept on premisise for those who are Rh negative.
